And although it’s been credited with sparking a conversation about the absence of funny women at the movies, according to Wiig, that also wasn’t the idea. “After I saw how much people loved it in the movie,” Apatow said in 2011, “I instantly asked her if she had any plans to write a script for herself.” Wiig went on to write the screenplay with longtime friend Annie Mumolo, and has since said she doesn’t consider it to be a “wedding movie,” but rather, one of friendship.
